Mumford & Wood wins the Conservation and Renovation category of the Homebuilding & Renovating Product Excellence Award.

For the second consecutive year Mumford & Wood, the specialist manufacturer of fine timber windows and doors, has won the Conservation and Renovation category of the Homebuilding & Renovating Product Excellence Award.

The achievement acknowledged a prestigious and very complex project in one of London’s most desirable locations for which Mumford & Wood designed and manufactured bespoke windows and doors for the retained front façade of a mixed-use, multi-storey property.

Mumford & Wood’s current window specification designs were adapted to meet, as closely as possible, the external detailing of the existing frame sections, and meeting rails on the replacement double glazed windows were required to stay in the same position in order to line up with stone features and brick work in the retained facades.

“Our Conservation™ box frame sliding sashes, casements, fanlights and doorsets all had to be recreated to faithfully replicate the original frames which involved a great deal of intricate design input and adaptation of our standard products,” says Chris Wood, Sales & Marketing Director, Mumford & Wood. Ground floor box frame windows required special, large meeting rails with a detailed mould fitted to the face; casements had special external feature moulding applied to the frame and casement fanlights required a special bar pattern.

The large stair frame, over seven metres high, was designed with a contemporary feel and Mumford & Wood worked closely with architects to achieve their vision. In this project the windows and fanlights were fitted internally in a check reveal showing only the exact frame proportions to match the original windows.

Mumford & Wood’s high performance, double glazed Conservation™ products are made from premium laminated, clear-grade timber. The Conservation™ Box Sash offers BSI ‘A-C’ Window Energy Ratings with an overall frame U-value of 1.4 W/m2.K, depending on specification. Traditional sightlines and a range of elegant and distinctive moulded profiles ensure these windows and complementary French doorsets and entrance doors are almost indiscernible from originals. Established since 1954, Mumford & Wood is widely recognised as the leading manufacturer of period and contemporary fenestration systems that have a 60-year estimated service life. BSI Kitemark and Energy Saving Trust recommended.
