Industry expert in filing and storage solutions, Railex Systems Ltd, has completed a major project at the Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture at Middlesex University.

The purpose built museum, situated within the University’s Cat Hill Campus, incorporates environmentally-controlled exhibition galleries, a lecture theatre, seminar room, conservation studio and study facilities. The museum delivers a unique resource for scholars and design professionals as well as an inspiring and enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages.

With a collection ranging from wallpapers and textiles, through to documentation such as contemporary books, magazines and important photographs, the museum was in need of a unique storage system that optimised space and ensured easy access – Railex provided the answer.

Whereas previously the museum’s vast collection was stored in a number of locations, the Railex solution was purpose-designed to optimise space and allow the whole collection, including offsite archive material, to be stored in one room.

It featured the company’s renowned Mobile Storage systems, picture storage facilities and special depth cabinets with laminated work tops. The end result – a cost effective storage system combining quick and simple accessibility with the security and durability essential for ensuring the conservation of an important area of Britain’s heritage.
