Client: NAPP Pharmaceuticals
Architect: Aukett by Fitzroy Robinson
Main Contractor: SDC Construction
Type of works: supply of 1250 standard and Multi Service passive chilled beams
A new highly visible office complex in Cambridge has used Flaktwoods chilled beams to help create the three-metre full-height ceiling requirements of NAPP Pharmaceuticals, for their three new office buildings on the Cambridge Science Park.
The Company started work on their new office development in October 2007. It knew it wanted generous office heights within the 110,000 sq ft of office space, and this caused some initial budget issues on the £28m project.
The two outer buildings contain over 1100 passive chilled beams that have been installed above a perforated metal ceiling system. Supply air is delivered into the occupied zone via floor swirl diffusers.
Within the central building, nearly 200 bespoke exposed multi-service passive chilled beams were chosen to compliment their high tech environment. Flaktwoods engineers were able to create an extremely low profile chilled beam with aluminiumcrafted exterior, housing integrated passive infrared sensors, speakers and direct/indirect lighting.
Commenting on the project, Linden Shuttleworth Systems Product Manager for the UK stated that by working closely with NAPP, SDC and their appointed consultant Venables Associates we were able to assist in providing a sustainable cost effective system that offered the performance and flexibility that the client desired.
