SDS enables new housing delivery with Weholite attenuation system.

Overview
The Highworth Neighbourhood Plan in Wiltshire is driving the delivery of 238 new homes, including 71 affordable properties and two public play areas, as part of a wider strategy for sustainable residential growth. Located along Swindon Road on the eastern edge of Highworth, the development integrates landscaped open spaces and clear access routes, supporting the town’s long-term community-led growth and regeneration objectives.

Surface water management was a critical element for this large-scale residential development. Roads, driveways, and roof areas generate substantial runoff, and a reliable, low-maintenance solution was required to manage stormwater, reduce flood risk, and support the wider drainage infrastructure.

What They Did
SDS supplied two Weholite attenuation tanks with capacities of 630 m³ and 320 m³. Prefabricated in modular HDPE pipe sections, the tanks were installed below ground in line with the site layout. Their lightweight, durable construction allowed for rapid placement and simple integration with the estate’s existing drainage system.

The Weholite tanks provide robust long-term storage for surface water, supporting phased occupation of the development while ensuring compliance with flood resilience requirements. They work in tandem with other SuDS features on site, including attenuation ponds, swales, and permeable paving, to manage runoff effectively across the estate.

Results
The SDS Weholite attenuation tanks now form a key element of Highworth’s surface water management strategy. They mitigate flood risk, protect the new housing and communal areas, and ensure the site’s drainage system operates efficiently under all conditions.

By combining engineered storage with complementary SuDS features, SDS has supported the delivery of sustainable housing in line with planning objectives, contributing to Highworth’s long-term infrastructure resilience and community growth.
