New acoustic batten options from Hush Acoustics offer increased versatility

Hush Acoustics has added greater choice and flexibility in creating acoustically insulated separating floors through an enhanced range of acoustic battens.

The popular Hush-Batten 55 and Hush-Batten 70 resilient composite battens, which are widely used in floor construction as a way to reduce impact sound transmission between separating floors, are now available in 2.4m lengths as well as the existing 1.8m product.

This additional option, available as standard and in the same lead times, is already proving popular with customers who can now construct acoustic floors using fewer battens, saving time and off-cut waste.

Hush Acoustics acoustic battens, manufactured in standard depths of 55mm and 75mm respectively, allow for the creation of a service void under timber, plywood or chipboard floors, and even help to reduce airborne sound transmission.

The battens provide long-lasting support for the chosen floor surface by combining superior quality planed timber with a highly resilient 10mm acoustic Hushfelt™ layer, which is factory-bonded to the underside.

And because Hush Acoustics manufactures all its acoustic battens here in the UK, the company also has the flexibility to provide architects and contractors with bespoke sizes to meet specific sound insulation requirements.

This gives maximum freedom to achieve acoustic ratings in applications where standard 55mm and 75mm depths may not be feasible for the environment.

Both Hush-Batten 55 and Hush-Batten 70, as well as any bespoke battens, are designed to exceed the current Building Regulation requirements of Part E (England and Wales), Section 5 (Scotland) and Part G (Northern Ireland). They are also compliant with Robust Details FFT1 for floor structures EFC-1, EFC-2, E-FT-1, E-FT-2 and EFS-1.

Installation is straightforward too by loose laying the battens, felt side down, in continuous rows at recommended centres.

Allowing for perimeter battens at the ends of the batten runs and a 10-15mm expansion gap around all perimeters, the flooring is then fixed to the battens using a generous amount of Hush-Bond Panel Adhesive and secure with ring nails or screws.

Hush-Seal 20 perimeter seal is then used to seal the perimeter expansion gap to ensure that the floor floats freely of the walls and maintains acoustic isolation (or perimeter detail as per Robust Detail instructions using Hush-RD Flanking Strip).
