The Client:

Based at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, The European Space Agency have built a new conference facility that will form part of their European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT). Serving as a focal point to promote space-based collaboration and innovation, the venue will host both domestic and international events.

Their Brief:

Sanitaryware was needed to serve the cutting-edge meeting facilities that will house a conference hall for 300 people, 2 meeting rooms, as well as breakout areas, exhibition space, dedicated rooms for interpreters and catering facilities. The sanitaryware needed to be hardwearing and easy to clean and maintain to ensure it would keep looking fresh after each event.

The Solution:

Armitage Shanks and Ideal Standard products were specified for this project, to ensure the desired longevity was met whilst still providing modern and stylish facilities to visitors. The Sanitaryware Company provided Ideal Standard’s Concept Back to Wall Toilet Pan. With Aquablade technology it ensures a hygienic flush with no splashing and the Rimless design allows for easy cleaning. This was coupled with the Armitage Shanks Sensorflow 21 Conceala Concealed Toilet Cistern with Panel Mounted Sensor, which offers hygienic, touch free operation and is also DDA compliant. The Armitage Shanks Contour Urinal Bowl was also used throughout the washrooms and has a concealed trap for a clean, modern design and easy cleaning. With the added benefit of being HBN and SHTM compliant.

For the handwashing areas, the Ideal Standard Concept Sphere Vessel Basin was paired with the Armitage Shanks Sensorflow E Touch Deck Mounted Tap. With touch free hygienic operation, the taps have an adjustable temperature control and automatic shut off for reduced water consumption, ideal for the public areas.

Finally for Doc M compliance, The Sanitaryware Company provided Armitage Shanks Contour 21+ Back to Wall WC Doc M Packs. At 480mm high the WCs are fed by a cistern hidden by IPS panelling to minimise clutter and maximise hygiene. The pack contains a Rimless WC for increased hygiene and easy cleaning and a TMV3 approved basin mixer to help prevent scalding with integral thermostat to reduce Legionella risk.
