New timber windows and doors installed in 1890s farmhouse

New timber windows and doors installed in 1890s farmhouse

Originally built in the 1890s, this stunning farmhouse in Hertfordshire has been extended twice during its history, and has recently been extended again by current homeowner, Mrs Ballard.

“We have lived here for roughly 4 years now and during that time, had identified numerous improvements we wanted to make. Plans were made for renovations throughout the home, as well as new windows and doors, and a new extension at the rear” Mrs Ballard explains.

The Ballards selected an experienced building contractor to manage the project, with plans also needing to be submitted to their local authority for approval.

Dale Joinery were recommended to us as being capable of providing windows and doors on a like for like basis, with the originals, as stipulated by the local authority”.

Beautiful timber sash windows, French doors and an impressive front door have been installed across the home, including the new extension. “The windows have been such a good replacement; as each one was replaced (one at a time by our builder), we could barely tell they were different to before, which was exactly what we were aiming for!”

“The new windows have got rid of the terrible draughts we used to suffer from with the original windows, and this has made such a difference to our comfort levels”.

“In total, the works took a year to complete, during which time we moved out into a caravan! We are so delighted with how our home looks now!” Mrs Ballard concludes.

THE DALE JOINERY SOLUTION
Sash Windows
Traditionally styled, timber sash windows were installed throughout, finished in the shade of ‘Oyster White’. Polished Brass hook fasteners and sash lifts work perfectly with this colour, with 18mm astragal glazing bars added to give a timeless appearance.

Triple Sash Windows
For the new, rear extension, beautiful, triple sash windows have been installed. With this window style, the outer sashes are fixed in place, a style of window popular in the architecture of homes from the late 19th Century.

Feature Entrance Door
Creating a truly one-of-a-kind entrance, a bespoke variation of the ‘Lydford’ entrance door was specified, with 8 equally sized, glass and wooden panels. Finished in the shade of ‘Chrome Green’ the colour perfectly complements the ivy-covered face of the property, with Polished Brass PVD ironmongery from the Coastal range completing the look.

French Doors
Owing to the age of the property, and with a need for the new extension to fit in seamlessly, traditional timber French doors were the ideal solution to connect the home and garden. The beautiful new doors are finished in the same ‘Oyster White’ as the new windows, with a Polished Brass PVD Regent handle selected to match the new front door.
