Architect: Shauna Cameron
Application: under-rafter and walls
Type of works: supply and installation of TRISO-SUPER 10 thin multifoil.
Shauna Cameron, of Shauna Cameron Architect, uses ACTIS' thin thermo-reflective insulation products regularly, including her last project.
Ms Cameron comments: "My last project was a new-build house, which used sustainable materials such as timber frame, timber cladding, underfloor heating and a ground source heat pump. Therefore, we needed an insulation with a high U-value and strong green credentials. ACTIS products fit the bill with these types of projects for two reasons. Firstly, ACTIS demonstrated that its products are manufactured and distributed using processes that respect the environment. Secondly, multifoil products inherently minimise the energy consumption of buildings, therefore helping to reduce the greenhouse effect."
"Despite being much thinner than traditional insulation products, ACTIS' TRISO SUPER 10 offers a high insulation value. Being no more than 30 mm thick, it's less bulky and much easier to handle than traditional thick insulation, making it much quicker and easier to install. In other projects, TRISO SUPER 10 has helped to reduce rafter depth. Usually, I'd have to use 200mm rafters to allow for a 150 insulation board and a 50mm air gap. But when you use the ACTIS product, these deep rafters may not be necessary" says Ms Cameron.
"I find that thin insulation is much easier to transport and handle. It's also good for restoration projects as it can be used above the sarking or below rafters and so minimises interruption during renovation work. This helps save on labour time and costs."
"For anyone who is thinking about using ACTIS products for the first time, the important thing to remember is to make sure that you seal the joints properly. However, as long as you position the rafters and dwangs carefully, this is easily done" adds Ms Cameron.
