Type of works: design and manufacture of Sandtoft's Cassius and 20/20 clay roof tiles.
Sandtofts Cassius and 20/20 clay roof tiles have been specified by architects Halsall Lloyd for the development of 54 new homes on the Newstead estate in Sheffield, which is currently being re-developed by Home Group in partnership with the City Council.
Andy Meek, Associate at Halsall Lloyd commented: The contemporary properties in this development incorporate a mix of Red and Buff facing brick, render and cedar cladding. We wanted to source environmentally-friendly and affordable roof tiles that would complement the aesthetics of these homes and meet planning requirements for a natural roofing material.
We specified a mix of the 20/20 tiles in Tuscan Red and the Cassius in Antique Slate to achieve a high-quality finish. The tiles met the demands of the Sheffield planners and have ensured that the overall appearance of the properties meets our high standards.
Craig Sidda, Social Housing Manager at Sandtoft added: The Cassius and 20/20 are from our New Generation range of roof tiles which has been designed to provide affordable and natural roofing solutions.
These products are ideal for social housing developments as they can dramatically reduce installation times and costs. For example, the 20/20 can reduce roof costs by 30% and cut completion times by up to a third when compared to traditional clay plain tiles, while the Cassius can reduce the cost of an installed roof by up to 50% compared to natural slate.
In addition, the tiles have the added benefit of being environmentally friendly as they are manufactured using 100% green electricity and certified to ISO 14001.
Home, in partnership with Sheffield City Council, is creating 1,000 new homes on local estates known as Scowerdons, Weakland and Newstead, (SWaN) in south east Sheffield.
Now being marketed as The Fields, the £135-million scheme is progressing well. All new homes being built at the Fields are of excellent quality and incorporate the latest in energy-efficient design.
