NorDan, leading supplier of high-performance environmentally-friendly timber windows and doors, ticks all the boxes for local authority specifiers, with a wide range of designs that are secure, safe and sustainable.
Whether for social housing or schools, community centres or healthcare facilities, NorDan windows and doors combine tried and tested designs developed around security and safety requirements, with responsibly resourced materials and high performance. NorDan has worked to obtain a wide range of approvals and certifications on its products, from Secured by Design to the PEFC Chain of Custody, giving local authorities peace of mind in specifying NorDan, whatever their projects priorities.
For security, a choice of windows and doors approved to the police preferred specification of Secured by Design is available, including NorDans flagship window design, the three handled tilt-and-turn. With a seven-point locking system and glass that cant be removed from outside without breaking the glazing unit, security is built in. In addition, NorDan can supply many special security glass solutions to improve resistance to burglary and casual crime, including laminated glass.
To meet safety requirements, toddler-proof safety devices are built into opening windows as standard, while a range of restrictors is available to meet additional requirements. The classic three handled tilt-and-turn windows are especially safe for rooms occupied by children, as the bottom handle can be removed so that the window can only be opened in the safe tilt position. Alternatively, a range of locking handles is available.
For fire safety, NorDan offers a range of doors as well as opening and fixed windows tested to Ei30 (30 minutes insulation and integrity) and a fixed window tested to B60 (60 minutes insulation and integrity). Windows can easily be sized to provide an emergency fire escape if required. In fact, whatever the requirement, NorDan can meet it, as project windows and doors are custom-made.
On the sustainability front, NorDan scores both in terms of materials and performance. Full PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) Chain of Custody accreditation on NorDan windows and doors certifies the timber is sourced from well managed forests which ensure that more trees are planted than are cut down for processing.
And NorDan windows and doors can offer extremely low whole-life carbon footprints. Specified in flagship low-carbon projects like the Kingspan Lighthouse, the NorDan NTech Passive window has an industry-leading low whole window U-value of just 0.7W/m2K. An academic brochure is available from NorDan which draws together the research of a number of respected academics working in the field of construction and the environment and confirms that NTech windows can make a significant contribution to energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.
