NorDans quality timber windows and doors have again been used to create a natural, beautiful, rural feel to a modern housing development and to help comply with local planning conditions.
The Glentarkie development of eight luxury homes in Perthshire, by Dundee-based West Residential, is arranged in a courtyard setting to give homeowners a rural lifestyle combined with the benefits of a superior level of modern building specification.
Barry Galloway, Company Director of West Residential, says: We have a long-term relationship with NorDan and know it produces a quality product at the right price.
Because of the nature of the site it was a planning condition that the windows had to be timber, so NorDan was the obvious choice. And in fact we used NorDan for the internal and external doors as well, as this fitted with one of our objectives for the development - to sympathetically blend stone, slate and timber.
Glentarkie is eight miles south east of Perth, near Pitmedden Forest between the nearby villages of Abernethy and Strathmiglo. Each three-, four- or five-bedroomed property has a private driveway and landscaped gardens and the elevated position of the development gives spectacular views south and west to the Lomond Hills and over the Howe of Fife.
The popular NorDan three-handled tilt-and-turn windows were specified and finished in Light Grey to complement the developments styling. The three-handled security window, which has been in continuous production for more than 40 years, opens inwards in tilt position to provide draught-free ventilation and opens fully in the turn position to allow the outside glass to be cleaned safely from inside. The window can also be used as a fire-escape route in case of emergency, size permitting.
The redwood windows have no ironmongery visible from the outside, making them ideal for high-quality developments where design aspects are a key feature, such as at Glentarkie. The NorDan tilt-and-turn windows are available with a range of options, from aluminium cladding to special noise-reduction glass and smart built-in Venetian blinds complete with secondary sash.
Matt Collins, Marketing Manager of NorDan UK, comments: The development at Glentarkie really showcases the beautiful aesthetics of our products, as well as benefiting from the high performance. With our aluminium-clad timber windows available finished in a wide choice of colours from the RAL colour range, they perfectly complement every style of design.
West Residential also specified the NorDan high-performance external door system in a Light Grey finish. These doors are made from burglar-resistant materials, with integral strength from double-steel plates, extra strong hinges, and security locks with five sturdy locking points as standard.
The doors feature extra-strong double-framed timber construction with solid pieces of timber and an energy saving core containing 50mm of insulation, producing a low U-value up to three times more energy efficient than a solid timber door. The door glazing is also toughened and triple pane insulated for added security and comfort. And as with all NorDan doors, an optional letterbox can be pre-fitted and the threshold can also be adapted for wheel chair access.
Internal doors for all the properties at Glentarkie were also provided by NorDan. These can come from certified environmentally friendly wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. The quality oak internal doors used at Glentarkie were especially adapted for the development and have satin chrome ironmongery to create a lightness of design inside each home.
