As part of a major renovation project, Oakhill Park's tennis courts in Accrington required full resurfacing works by a trusted partner in the industry to ensure viability and playability for years to come.
Delivered by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the renovation works form part of a £30m UK government and LTA Tennis Foundation funded scheme – the biggest of its kind ever seen – designed to renovate and improve thousands of park tennis courts across Britain.
The Solution:
Keen to specify a robust surfacing solution that serves the Oakhill Park community for years to come, surfacing specialists, Sportex Group selected Aggregate Industries and its specialist SuperSport Tennis asphalt for the project – a fast-draining material designed to meet the stringent demands of the game.
Working in close collaboration with the team at Sportex Group Aggregate Industries was tasked with supplying 70 tonnes of the specialist asphalt solution on a tight schedule.
Whilst being fully compliant with the requirements of the LTA and SAPCA SuperSport Tennis also acts as a sustainable drainage system, reducing the potential impact of surface water runoff.
A big team effort and meticulous delivery programme ensured Aggregate Industries was able deliver the entire specification in just two days. This required precise planning and collaborative working with all project partners to achieve consistent and punctual deliveries throughout helping to keep the project on-time and to budget, while receiving glowing customer feedback in the process.
SuperSport Tennis was delivered as a 6mm asphalt and in order to maintain an aesthetically pleasing appearance, the team at Aggregate Industries used its industry expertise to create a specialist mix using carefully selected aggregates, sourced to reduce the risk of staining.
Jamie Blamire Managing Director at Sportex Group Ltd comments: “It was imperative for us to not only use a materials supplier partner with the right pedigree of specialist product, but with the capabilities and know-how to be able to deliver on what was a very time framework. Having worked with Aggregate Industries many times before, they were the obvious choice for us from the outset and certainly didn’t disappoint.”
Emma Dalgleish, General Manager at Aggregate Industries: “We are particularly proud of what we have been able to achieve with this project. To consider that we took the material order on a Thursday, and were able to pull together to start supply the following Tuesday and complete the full quota in just two days was no mean feat, especially considering it involved the transfer of stone from one asphalt plant to the supplying plant. However, through precise planning, close collaboration with Sportex and the dedication of our team we were able to deliver in full and on time.”
