Ocean Cruise Terminal, Southampton

Established encasement solutions provider, Contour Casings Ltd, has supplied and installed a number of products in a new £19 Million development at Southampton docks, dubbed the “Cruise Capital of the UK”.

Contours’ GRP (Glass Reinforced Gypsum) Column Casings were identified as the professional solution to conceal unsightly steel structures in the Ocean Cruise Terminal, home to some of the worlds’ finest cruise liners. The Port of Southampton is now on course to become the biggest cruise ship hub in Europe.

The in-house design team at Contour worked closely with the client and developed a bespoke product to match the clean aesthetic lines of the new cruise terminal, but which was also robust enough to withstand any impacts from holidaymakers and luggage trolleys. The installation team from Contour then moved in to complete the project, adding the finishing details to the impressive waterside development.

The 450mm column casings, which tower 7000mm in height, are located in the grand entrance atrium of the Ocean Cruise Terminal, providing an imposing focal point for passengers as they embark on their journey. Ocean Cruise Terminal is the first new purpose-built cruise facility to be constructed at the port in over 40 years, and is home to some of the worlds’ most famous cruise liners, including the QEII and Queen Mary.

Leigh Simpson, Managing Director at Contour Casings, said, “From our extensive range of column casing sizes, shapes and finishes, our design team selected a product to exactly match the scheme criteria at Southampton docks. We are delighted to be able to bring our experience and expertise to such a prestigious project, and play our part in what will continue to be a world-renowned cruise line brand with a rich heritage”.
