Office renovation chooses Boon Edam for an access control solution

Known as being within one of the most prominent positions within Glasgow, 191 West George Street stands on the corner of West George Street and Wellington Street. The position encourages an easy commute for the workforce with transport links being a stone’s throw away from the development.

Renovated with space and clarity in mind, the atrium stands out with its high-quality materials. The atrium was designed with a sleek set of Lifeline Speedlane Swings from Boon Edam.

The lead architects renovating 191 West George Street was Michael Laird Associates.

Working directly with the architects, it was a simple product selection process regarding security. The requirements were for a slimline access control solution that had the versatility to control large numbers of visitors. Michael Laird Associates specified early on for a slimline access control that could be linked to reception.

This new office space thrives in an open white space design, with slight mushroom tones contouring the reception. The Lifeline Speedlane Swing has such a minimal footprint that they can seamlessly integrate in all locations without being unobtrusive to user access or aesthetic design.

The designated lift area at 191 West George Street is secured by a bank of double wing Lifeline Speedlane Swings. Understanding building type and estimated building capacity was indicative to the number of security lanes installed and type of configuration.

Configured as a standard set-up with a wide double wing set placed at the end, it was understood early into the design process that throughput adaptability was a key factor to the installation.

Wide setup lanes are great for allowing large groups to pass through as well as wheelchair, pram, luggage access. These lanes can be controlled remotely via a device called Boon Touch, which gives reception control to open or close lanes.

Other important considerations were how the positioning of the lanes would cope with peak times of day and bi-directional traffic.

Working in collaboration with the Northern Specification and Area Sales Managers, the architect and client already had a clear idea regarding the outcome of the new entrance. The UK team work through a process known as Boon Select. This process enables teams to generate, analyse and formulate the perfect entry scenario going through seven key considerations. Being able to map out considerations enables better, more sustainable decisions that in turn highlights all aspects of entry requirements.

Throughput
There was a need to protect the waiting area/reception from the outside environment at all times.

Along with this, there needed to be ease of flow during peak times in and out of the building, this also includes the reception throughput also.

Security
A need to ensure building users during out of working hours were secure within the building, that the building and property would be secure and that deterrents were in place to monitor building use.

Safety
Ensuring that all products fully complied with European safety requirements and that user safety and throughput during emergency procedures were guaranteed.

Aesthetics
The design of the entrance needed to feel open, bright and elegant to match that of the building design. The design elements were fully understood and the end result of the additional wide lane and product colouring mirrored the overall building design seamlessly.

Technology
Boon Touch allows for full control over the security lanes remotely. This means that control can be given to security managers and receptionists without having to leave their work-space.

Comfort
Boon Touch allows for full control over the security lanes remotely. This means that control can be given to security managers and receptionists without having to leave their work-space.

Service
With a truly nationwide network of experienced highly skilled, directly employed, service technicians, Boon Edam were able to reassure the client that any issues could quickly be resolved.
