Type of works: design and manufacture of biometric access control.
Human Recognition Systems in partnership with Reliance High-Tech has delivered the contract to supply and manage the secure biometric access to the Olympic Park for all construction workers.
The biometric access control system works by using hand geometry and iris recognition templates saved onto smartcards, using secure Desfire encryption. This is the first time iris and hand biometrics have been fused onto a single smartcard.
A large part of the contract was to deliver an effective communication strategy and manage the considerable enrollment program of existing workers from the legacy system onto the new. This was achieved by setting up multiple enrollment stations including a mobile unit that could be deployed to more isolated areas across the park.
The biometric access control system has been integrated to the Site Enrolment System to provide the ODA with accurate information on access into and out of the park during the construction phase.
Ian Lammas, Major Projects Bid Director at Reliance High-Tech commented, "The new system instills a high level of confidence for both the secure access of employees onto the Olympic Park Construction Site and also the reporting information that can be obtained as a result."
