Orion lights up Public Park

A newly opened playground in Bamber Bridge, near Preston, features the Abacus Orion AL4000 lantern and 8m columns all supplied in black.

Withy Grove Park is located in the centre of Bamber Bridge and is the largest green space in the town and has been developed as one of the borough’s three major parks. It is anticipated that the site will be entered for the Green Flag Award (the national standard for parks and open spaces).

The park’s landscape comprises of two distinct areas divided by areas of woodland. The eastern side includes Bamber Bridge Leisure Centre, sports pitches and the borough’s new flagship playground.

The first phase of Withy Grove Park’s improvement included the construction of a £500,000 landmark play area. The facility was recently opened to the public by the mayor of South Ribble and has been designed to contain a range of equipment that caters for all ages across three zones. The site is lit until 9pm in the toddler and junior areas and 10pm in the teen area. For security and public safety the playground is covered by a cctv system.

The contractor for the project was Nottingham based Proludic who specialise in play and sports equipment. The Orion lantern was chosen for its good light coverage of the play area and minimal lighting points needed, which also meant it met budgetary requirements.
