Type of works: supply of a Blackdown green roof system and Hydrotech MM6125 waterproofing.
A Blackdown green roof from Alumasc has been used for a stunning garden designed by celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin on a new Belfast development.
The Ormeau Bakery Apartments combine the refurbishment and development of the former Ormeau Co-operative Bakery into 156 high quality, loft-style apartments. The buildings existing facades have been restored and the scheme also includes several retail units.
RPP Architects incorporated a landscaped private courtyard garden into the elaborate design, calling on Alumasc to provide all the Blackdown intensive green-roofing elements and 2,000m2 of Hydrotech MM6125 waterproofing for the car-park podium.
The Ormeau Bakery showcases how Alumascs Blackdown green roofs can create virtually any type of garden landscape, using a deep substrate to support a variety of tree, shrub and grass species. The intensive system offers the benefits of a small urban park, providing a rich habitat for wildlife as well as recreational access for residents and visitors.
Alumasc also provides extensive and biodiverse green roofs, which require minimal irrigation and maintenance. All Blackdown green roof types offer notable ecological benefits, helping to reduce air and noise pollution, cutting carbon emissions and assisting with rainwater retention and attenuation.
Alumascs Hydrotech MM6125 was chosen for the waterproofing element, offering the ideal solution for inverted green roofs and hard landscaped podium structures in new build applications. The BBA approved, high performance bituminous rubber blend enables fast and simple installation, even over complex roof details.
The Blackdown green roof and Hydrotech systems were installed by Grainger Building Services on behalf of the main contractor Graham Construction of County Down.
