Client: Park Lane
Architect: RMJM
Type of works: four different roof systems supplied by Alumasc; an Armaseam® standing-seam metal roof, a Blackdown green roof, a single-ply roofing membrane and Hydrotech premium structural waterproofing.
With innovative products and technical developments, contemporary roofs can be used to make a bold design statement, to transform thermal performance or even return the footprint of the building back to the community. The revolution of the roofscape is partly due to leading manufacturers investment in new solutions and total roof packages. This is illustrated at the Park Lane project at Glasgow Harbour which features four completely different roof systems, all supplied by Alumasc Exterior Building Products.
The project, designed by RMJM in Glasgow, is architecturally striking and provides excellent use of the site position and its aspects. Four roofing systems were intrinsic to this vision: an Armaseam® standing seam metal roof, a Blackdown green roof, a single-ply roofing membrane and Hydrotech premium structural waterproofing. The Hydrotech structural waterproofing system allowed the podium deck and terraces to be laid without any falls, which simplified detailing and construction. All the interfaces were also constructed with Alumasc materials.
One supplier, one contractor and one guarantee was required for the whole roof. Alumasc was specified for the project because it was able to provide all of the required roofing packages, through one approved contractor, covered by one warranty. The architect had one point of contact, both at specification stage and during construction, with the future performance of all the roofs assured from the same single source.
