A sailing club for the disabled is set to benefit from a new boathouse thanks to a donation from Sandtoft Roof Tiles. The manufacturer has supplied its Old English pantiles free of charge to help roof the new building, which will be used as a permanent storage and maintenance facility for the Waveney Sailability charity.
The club is located in a conservation area so the local authority set strict planning requirements, said Nick Oldridge, Sales and Marketing Director at Sandtoft. Only pantiles could be used on the roof to ensure a very traditional appearance that matched with the surrounding environment. Our Old English pantile was an ideal solution so we were more than happy to donate a number of these tiles for this worthwhile cause.
David Collins from Waveney Sailability added: We are very grateful to Sandtoft for helping us to construct this excellent facility and making the project such a success. The boathouse is a vital addition to our club that will ensure our members can continue to experience the freedom and excitement of sailing for many years to come.
Sandtoft worked closely with roofers from Harrison Roof Tiling who gave up their spare time to lay the tiles.
The boathouse formally opened in May 2009.
