Portable Coolers provide Perfect Training for South Pole Team

Fläkt Woods JM portable coolers were specified as part of the essential training work needed for the participants in the long awaited BBC docu-mentary'On Thin Ice' which is scheduled to air on BBC2.

Having survived rowing across the Atlantic together in 2006, James Cracknell and Ben Fogledecided to swap oars for skis and enter the Race to the South Pole that took place earlier in 2007.

They knew that, once again, it would be a gruellingtest of endurance.

"The cold has a nasty way of creeping up on you," says one expert after the pair spent 24 hours in a climate chamber, where the temperature is minus 35 degrees C.
The first film in the series, highlighted in the Radio Times, focuses on their tortuous training. As well as immersion in freezing water, the JM Portable Coolers were used to force cold air on the pair, as they ran on a treadmill.

The fans feature an aerofoil impeller set at a maximum pitch for the motor to give greatest cooling velocity.

With a diameter of up to 500mm and a maximum speed of 2910 rpm, these fans throw the air up to 25m making them ideally suited to targeted cooling situations.
