This CPD provides an introduction to precast concrete flooring systems, both hollowcore and beam and block, including typical load span capacities, bearing details and a case study on the accommodation of construction loads. It looks at compliance with the requirements of the Building Regulations, Part A, Part B and Part E are discussed together with an outline of manufacturing processes, transport and installation considerations. It will help you to understand the following topics: - Understand precast concrete sustainability - Understand typical load span capabilities of hollowcore and beam and block floors - Understand how construction loads, back propping of in-situ floors and MEWPs, can be accommodated, looking at a case study - Understand the different types of hollowcore slabs and beam and block flooring and typical bearing details - Understand Building Regulations including Part A: robustness and disproportionate collapse provisions, Part B: Fire Safety and Part E: Resistance to the Passage of Sound - Understand manufacturing processes for prestressed hollowcore and T beams - Understand installation considerations including some of the health and safety issues associated with the installation of precast flooring such as working with cranes, working at height and overhead obstructions
