Client: Price Waterhouse Coopers
Type of works: supply of Mini Canal trench heating

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) is one of the world’s largest professional services companies and forms part of the Big Four accountancy firms. With offices in more than 150 countries worldwide, the firm’s headquarters have recently been centralised near Tower Bridge at the prestigious new 7 More London development.

The ten-storey building, designed by Foster + Partners and BDP, is the UK’s first major office building to receive a BREEAM Outstanding rating with a range of energy-efficient systems, including green roofs and solar hot water panels. Dovetailing with the environmentally responsible approach to the design of the building, approximately 2,500 metres of Jaga’s Mini Canal trench heating were selected for use after an exhaustive review of competitive trench heating systems.

The Mini Canal incorporates Jaga’s acclaimed low mass and highly thermally efficient Low-H2O heat exchangers. Jaga supplied the Mini Canal trench heating for use in front of the unusual saw-tooth facade and to the internal curved areas on all floors and around the central atrium. The Mini Canal was selected by fit-out specialists, Overbury, and services contractors, Michael J Lonsdale.

The Mini Canal offered them a versatile heating system which could fit within the restricted floor depths available yet still sit flush with the floor. The Jaga trench units were supplied in sizes ranging from 1200mm long to 6815mm long with a variety of rigid and roll-up grilles for use throughout the building while stainless steel grilles were chosen for use in the reception area.

All frames were made from aluminium, specially coloured black to blend seamlessly with the framing in the curtain walling.

The project has been critically acclaimed and as Kaz Glander, project manager from Michael J Lonsdale, said: “We are very pleased with Jaga – everybody likes the product and the architects like the look. The Mini Canal is an effective solution which met the brief perfectly in terms of power and style, for instance, Jaga applied a special Designo Aluminium finish onto the grilles in order for them to match the walls perfectly.”
