Did you know that regular window glass blocks UV light below 320 nm? However, Kuraray developed Trosifol® UV Extra Protect, a laminated safety glass interlayer that enables visible light to pass through while offering complete protection against harmful UV radiation.
This innovative method refurbished Portsmouth's Royal Garrison Church. 800 years of multi-purpose Church history. The church's ancient antiques and elements are protected by a high-performance interlayer.
Daedalus Conservation, a historic building specialist with many high-profile UK projects, planned and installed the new screen wall, designed by architects Caroe & Partners and built by Bassett and Findley.
"English Heritage's conservation team explained the importance of some of the ancient and very fragile military standards in the building," adds Daedalus Conservation managing director Gary Jones, emphasizing UV protection. UV protection must meet structural performance due to Portsmouth's Solent winds.
The architectural firm ultimately chose Trosifol® UV Extra Protect PVB film as the interlayer in the glass panels. The interlayer was used in a multi-panel partition manufactured by ESG Group, separating the roofless nave from the sanctuary.
