Protective coatings for Canary Wharf Crossrail

Protective coatings for Canary Wharf Crossrail

Intumescent coatings from Envirograf have been used to provide fire protection to timber and steel construction at Canary Wharf Crossrail station. The new Crossrail station, located at the North Dock of Canary Wharf’s West India Quay, is due to be one of the largest in the network.

On-site application of Envirograf® Products 42 and 83 was carried out by S&H Coatings Ltd, following recommendation of our products by design studio and architecture firm DesignLSM. Envirograf® Product 42 (clear intumescent coating and top coat) was applied to achieve one hour fire and loaded floor protection.

This product maintains the appearance of the natural timber joists and flooring, meeting EN1364-1 and BS476 Part 20. Supporting the structure, all of the load bearing beams, columns and staircase supports were coated with Envirograf® Product 83 (intumescent steel coating), with a special colour top coating to enhance the decorative look of the building.

Product 83 meets BS476 Parts 20 & 22, providing up to 150 minutes protection, and can be applied to aluminium over existing paint without shot blasting.
