SW A2 was developed with safety, compliance, and quality in focus, especially in light of recent changes to the Building Regulations 2010.

The Ravatherm SW A2 Upstand was born out of the desire to challenge two key issues for UK customers – it addresses the issue of thermal bridging in flat roofs and has been designed to meet the latest version of Approved Document B of the Building Regulations 2010 for England and Wales, which came into force on 1st December 2022. With the most recent amendments to Approved Document B, the ban on combustible materials in and on the external walls of residential buildings above 18m introduced in 2018 has been extended to include those between 11-18m in height. Relevant buildings will be subject to stipulations including the requirement for a full-scale fire test to BS 8414-1 or BS 8414-2 if insulation is to be used in external walls.

These regulations now apply to any mid-rise buildings where people sleep – including hospitals, apartment blocks and boarding schools - giving more weight to fire safety considerations in the construction of a greater proportion of buildings.

The uplift means that any attachment to the external walls of relevant buildings above 11m in height must use non-combustible materials. To ensure total compliance and outstanding performance within your inverted roof system, Ravatherm SW A2 Upstand Board has been tested against Reaction to Fire EN 13501-1: 2018 and achieves a Euroclass A2 – s1, d0.
