Client: The Gatehill Property Company Limited
Type of works: supply of secure, wire mesh storage enclosures.

Secure, wire mesh storage enclosures, supplied by storage and partitioning specialist Troax (UK) Limited, have proved a real selling point for buyers of a new development of studio apartments in Rayners Lane, North Harrow. The wire mesh enclosures offer homeowners a secure storage facility with the convenience of being located on site.

All the studio apartments in the newly refurbished, art deco apartment block are now sold and the benefit of additional secure, easily accessible storage, proved to be a real attraction for buyers, particularly as the apartments are studios and space is at a premium.

Troax used its Cetus modular, wire mesh storage system to construct a series of 50 enclosures within the basement to provide secure storage space for residents’ personal belongings such as sports equipment. Each apartment owner has been allocated an individual storage unit, included within their service charge. The remainder can be rented out by residents as required.

According to Richard Bunt of developers The Gatehill Property Company Limited, who converted and refurbished the apartments, the storage units are easy to install and offer a cost-effective yet convenient storage solution as he explains: “I first came across this type of secure, centrally located storage in the US where the concept is widespread and units are commonly used in apartment blocks. It seemed like an excellent idea and perfect for many of our developments.”

“Our project manager recommended Troax to supply the units as he’d worked with them before and knew that they could supply the right solution for us. We’re very pleased with the units which look terrific - the apartment owners are delighted too and many of them have told us how useful they are. I’m sure the idea will catch on quickly in the UK as people discover how useful this type of storage is.”

Designed for use in basements and other communal areas, Troax storage enclosures are constructed from modular, wire mesh panels which offer a number of practical advantages; the mesh is too small for a hand to get through but creates a well ventilated, fully visible environment, allowing smoke and heat to filter through to trigger smoke detection systems and allow full penetration of sprinkler systems in the event of a fire.

Units can be supplied in a wide range of sizes and each is fitted with either a cylinder lock or padlock for complete security, making them ideal for storing anything from books to bikes and furniture. Full steel versions are also available.
