Red Cross goes green with Vincent Timber

Red Cross goes green with Vincent Timber

With sustainability a key factor in the development of the Red Cross’ new British HQ in Moorfields, Worcester, Vincent Timber’s eco-friendly Western Red Cedar was the only choice for cladding. Built to utilise solar power, natural ventilation and minimise environmental impact, the state of the art building is at the cutting edge of green design.

Brief
The cladding had to be of the highest eco-friendly standards to meet the Red Cross’ ethical philosophy, with no compromise on quality. It was essential that the material be long lasting and durable in order to keep the life-saving organisation from unnecessary repair and maintenance costs. It was also essential that it looked good, as this prestigious build is the centre of the Red Cross’ British operations.

Solution
To meet these goals, Western Red Cedar from Vincent Timber was specified for its certified green qualities, low maintenance and looks. In order to elongate the already impressive life span of the wood, three coats of Sikkens wood stain were specified for even greater protection from the elements.

Benefits
The cladding boasts unrivalled green credentials. Vincent Timber is one of the UK’s most knowledgeable importers and suppliers of timbers, all of which come from CSA and FSC certified sources. More durable than alternative, inferior materials, Western Red Cedar is highly resilient, resistant to decay and can be trusted to give long service with minimal need for maintenance. With impressive flexibility, the Western Red Cedar cladding was a perfect fit for the graceful curves of the structure, bringing warm, natural looks to the Red Cross’ new HQ.
