Riverside apartment development, Cambridge

Client: Wates Construction Ltd
Type of works: entrance and walkway canopies to front and rear of luxury apartment development.

The entrance canopies were supplied as single piece frames that bolted to a steel beam, which in turn bolted to the building floor slab. Cover plates between each of the support arms gave a smooth finish, level with the cladding material of the building, and covered the main fixing bolts. All bolts and fittings were supplied in 316 stainless steel. The steelwork had a 250-year paint system, and the cladding was in 18mm toughened-glass with polished edges.

To the rear of the building, two solid-sheet polycarbonate barrel vault roofed walkways were supplied, linking the three stairwells at ground level. The inclusion of bolted glass sidewalls gave additional protection to residents. All metal work was colour matched to the front entrance canopies, with Bronze polycarbonate being chosen for the roof. The sidewalls consisted of bolted, toughened-glass panels with access/escape double doors included in the appropriate positions.
