Riverside views at The Old Pottery with Cembrit

Cembrit, specialists in natural and fibre cement slates, has provided Contessa natural slates for a new riverside development in Rye, named The Old Pottery. This modern development required an attractive authentic exterior and Cembrit's Spanish Contessa slates were the perfect answer for the roof covering.

Grey Contessa slates were used throughout the stunning development which consists of one office, three apartments, five townhouses and one detached home. With an exclusive view overlooking the River Tillingham, this secure complex is selling fast. Located close to local amenities, the development is in a prime location and is proving popular as well as an asset to the area. Swift Roofing, who fitted the slates, used the hook fixing method which offers advantages over traditional nail fixing including greater wind resistance, simpler and more time efficient installation once on the roof, easier maintenance and fewer breakages due to holing (which isn't required for hook fixing).

“The Contessa natural slate were chosen to give an impressive, neat finish to a building,” Alan from Swift Roofing comments. “The slates were good to work with and we are pleased with the end result. Being near to the river, we knew that the slates needed to be able to withstand wind and moisture from the river, which hook-fixed Contessa is perfect for.”

Contessa, one of the UK’s leading specified Spanish slates, has been produced by some of the most efficient quarries in Spain. This natural slate is available in blue/black and grey and comes in a variety of sizes. With its textured surface, an attractive and long lasting roof can be achieved. They are strong enough to withstand weather conditions and are unaffected by sunlight, ultraviolet light and acid rain. Contessa slate will last the lifetime of the building and is ideal for use on any major project including supermarkets, schools, city offices and prestige homes.

Using skills built up over 80 years, Cembrit select natural slate from Spain, Canada, Brazil, China, India and the countries of Western Europe. From UK quarries Cembrit offer Welsh, Cornish and Westmorland slates. Quality levels at Group factories are rigorously maintained to high standards with fibre cement slates produced to BS EN 492:2004 and manufactured under the control of a BS EN ISO 9001: 2000 quality management system. Furthermore the company operates an environmental management system to ISO 14001:1996. Cembrit UK is a member of Cembrit Holding A/S (formerly the Dansk Eternit Holding A/S) of Denmark, one of Europe’s major building material producers of fibre reinforced cement products for the roofing and cladding industry.
