Royal Mail Regional Centre, Daventry

Client: Royal Mail
Contractor: Bowmer & Kirkland
Architect: Watson & Batty
Type of works: supply and installation of Safety barriers and posts to protect both internal and external areas including loading bays.

When the Royal Mail needed to think about safety posts and barriers for their regional centre at Daventry, architects Watson and Batty quickly specified Berry Systems. As market leaders in off highway safety barriers, Berry Systems was able to provide a range of tailor made solutions to protect staff, visitors, vehicles and plant. Most of the barriers were designed with integral handrails, to provide additional protection for people, and mounted on Berry’s patented spring steel buffers for added protection for vehicles too. Flexible steel fittings and plastic end caps were utilised where needed to avoid damage or injury caused by sharp, exposed ends and corners. Although the centre is heavily used by HGVs, fork lift trucks and wheeled trollies, Berry Systems helped to create as safe an environment as possible.

Berry Systems supplied:

  • 368m of Barrier Rail mounted on GH Spring Steel Buffers with special ‘handrail bend’ extensions and handrail, 1,100mm high overall.
  • 56m of Barrier Rail mounted on GH Sping Steel Buffers.
  • 27.5m of Barrier Rail mounted back to back, one side on GH Spring Steel Buffers, the other on RB1 Spring Steel Buffers.
  • 3.25m of Barrier Rail mounted on Rigid Bolt Down Posts, 1,200mm overall height.
