Sandtoft chooses Ecobuild 2010 to showcase latest green innovations

Sandtoft will be exhibiting its integrated solar roof tile system – the UK’s first integrated system designed for use with clay roof tiles – and two of its most sustainable roof products, the 20/20 interlocking clay plain tile and BritLock, its 80% recycled slate, at Ecobuild in March.

These are just a selection of the products which have helped to establish Sandtoft as one of the UK’s most environmentally-aware manufacturers and the company expects to attract a healthy amount of interest when the stand it will be sharing with leading brick manufacturer, Wienerberger, is unveiled.

The unique, clay solar roof to be displayed at Ecobuild, shows how C21e solar tiles can be integrated with Sandtoft’s award-winning 20/20 clay roof tiles. C21e is an aesthetic solar tile and an average system can provide approximately 65% of a typical home’s electricity requirements.*

The 20/20 tile has a single lap design providing coverage of around 20 tiles per square metre instead of the usual 60 required when using traditional plain tiles. As less material is used, the CO2 emissions on the roof can be reduced by 35%. In addition, the 20/20 requires fewer battens which further reduces the use of materials and lorry movements. When this reduction is combined with the fact that the company uses 100% green electricity, the 20/20 has the capacity to reduce the carbon footprint of a roof by a huge 50%.

Made from 80% recycled slate sourced entirely from within the British Isles in the UK’s first carbon neutral roofing factory, BritLock Slate is one of the most sustainable roofing products on the market. Designed to be interlocking and offer a natural roof covering, BritLock provides the specifier significant savings in the cost of installation.

Nick Oldridge, Sales and Marketing Director for Sandtoft, anticipates that there will be a surge of interest in their stand this year as specifiers and designers look for products that have cost-saving benefits, as well as high-ranking green credentials: “Designers are looking for products that will have a low carbon footprint and will help them design roofs which can reduce the environmental impact of the home. We haven’t lost sight of the fact that these solutions should be affordable in every case”.

“We are committed to delivering a full range of eco-friendly products to meet our customers’ requirements and we are constantly reviewing both our product ranges and our manufacturing processes to drive our green agenda.”
