Sandtoft clay roof tile range expands with the launch of new clay plain tiles

Sandtoft, a Wienerberger brand, has expanded its industry-leading clay product range with the launch of a number of new clay plain tiles in April 2013.

Hot on the heels of the launch of the new Barrow and Alban clay plain tile ranges in 2011, each of the new designs bring a new texture or colour to the already sought after range. The new clay tiles are manufactured at Broomfleet, where Sandtoft has extensive clay reserves formed from the alluvial plain of the river Humber over 10,000 years ago. This abundant natural resource is situated directly alongside the manufacturing site, and has been harnessed for generations to create beautiful and highly durable clay tiles. From recycled foundry sands that are carefully pressed into the tile’s surface during the manufacture, to new finishing techniques which bring brand new muted hues to the clay plain tile, there really is a tile for every roof design in the range.

The new tiles have been developed together, but each creates its own look on the roof and offers the specifier, housebuilder or homeowner a range of benefits. The manufacturing process ensures that a generous application of sand is embedded into every tile to create a rich look characteristic of a true handmade tile.

There are five colours to choose from, four of which have been designed to emulate Sandtoft’s award winning Goxhill handmade plain tile. The four includes two brown shades (Dark Oak and Bay Brown), two red colours (the Light and Dark Rusper), the fifth is a bold new colour called Red Basalt. The colours in the range can be used individually on the roof or mixed to create an attractive blend of colours.

One of the most popular colour effects is called ‘Barrow Brindle Mix’ which mixes three colours to create a rustic appearance – and one which is ideally suited to heritage building projects. The red colours are also ideal for vertical tile hanging.

The Alban range differs from the Barrow as it combines the look of a reclaimed tile with great value for money. There are also two colour options available. The Sussex Blend features a mix of red, brown and black tones, while the ‘Vintage Blend’ offers striking contrasts of red and black colour.

The Okewood tile has also been launched in a new colour: Haze, which is a blend of two colours. The Okewood is a traditional clay plain tile with a smooth finish and looks that are reminiscent of a sanded tile. Finally, Sandtoft is also launching new colours for its award-winning Humber range and handcrafted ridges
