Schlüter-Systems’ Unique Tile Showroom nominated for award

Schlüter-Systems’ recent collaborative project with Pentagon Tiles and Ardex has been nominated for a prestigious regional award.

Clerkenwell-based project, Porcelain Gallery, by Simon Astridge Architecture Workshop (also known as 45-49 Leather Lane) has been shortlisted for the RIBA London Awards 2018 alongside 92 other projects.

Selected from over 200 entries, it celebrates ceramics in a unique setting, incorporating products from its three industry-leading collaborators as well as clay and ceramic detailing by the practice itself. The winners of RIBA’s 12 regional awards will find themselves one step further along the path to the ultimate accolade of the Stirling Prize, awarded annually by RIBA to Britain’s best building.

The project incorporates an exhibition space with tactile samples and a fully functioning wetroom, amongst other areas. To the rear, four shipping containers – coloured discerningly to blend with the glazed bricks of the buildings in the surrounding conservation area – are arranged to provide intimate meeting rooms.

45-49 Leather Lane marked an important milestone for Schlüter-Systems: the foundation of its first London hub. With the capital being the epicentre of prestigious projects, and the company’s ever-increasing engagement in the area, the project provides an ideal space for Schlüter-Systems’ representatives to meet with specifiers and show product solutions in situ.

The winners of the award will be announced at a ceremony on the 15th May at RIBA, 66 Portland Place, following visits from a jury in April.
