School building in Somerset

Client: Direct from the school
Type of works: installed Em-Glaze Lantern Light rooflight

The original Lantern Light comprised of a metal frame and single skin glass. This unit was installed centrally over the school food preparation area and whilst providing light, ventilation was inadequate. The brief was to provide a unit which was sympathetic to the existing, but improving ventilation and reduce ‘Heat Gain’.

Whitesales' Em-Glaze Lantern Light rooflight was installed during the school holiday. It comprises of a vertical glazing skirt in keeping with original appearance and a gable ended Ridgelight which included 4 no. motorised opening sections. These opening sections are protected by internal flyscreens, thus meeting strict school hygiene regulations. The double glazed glass is Solar Tinted with a Solar Transmission of 37%, guaranteeing maximum light and minimum heat-gain.

All of the design criteria were met and the finished product enhances the school kitchen environment, making it a pleasant place to work. The unit is also covered by a 10 year guarantee with a life expectancy in excess of 25 years giving peace of mind to the school management team.
