Schueco's Enhanced Range Offers Discreet Security

Responding to the increasing need for people and property to be protected against criminal intentions and terrorism, Schueco has developed a specialist range of aluminium blast- and bullet-resistant windows, doors and facades. Designated 'Enhanced', these products are virtually indistinguishable from conventional Schueco systems, allowing architects and specifiers to achieve the highest technical specifications for security without having to compromise the integrity of their designs.

The Enhanced range includes systems that are both bullet-resistant (BS EN 1522 standard) and blast-resistant (BS EN 13123 standard). In addition, Schueco has windows and facades that meet MoD specification guidelines for buildings subject to terrorist threat (tested using the MoD's preferred open range method).

Enhanced bullet-resistant systems available include fixed, turn-tilt and bottom-hung windows, single and double doors, and facades, all of which meet FB4 security standards, meaning that they will provide protection from a variety of types of hand-guns. Also available is a window that can withstand a 7.62mm calibre military rifle (FB6 security standard).

Schueco has its own in-house ballistic range to test Enhanced products and despite their extreme effectiveness, the systems make use of standard Schueco manufacturing principles and utilise many common components, meaning that fabrication is straightforward and costs are optimised.

At the same time as providing high levels of security, Schueco Enhanced systems also provide high levels of thermal insulation and meet Document L requirements.

To guarantee maximum security it is important to ensure that not only are the correct products specified but also the building interface details. With over 20 years experience in this field and with a wide portfolio of successful projects in the UK, mainland Europe and elsewhere, few companies have the breadth of experience of Schueco. Typical installations of enhanced systems include not only airports, law courts and police stations, embassies, military installations, chemical plants and nuclear power stations, but also corporate headquarters, shopping centres and sports stadia.
