Schueco UK Limited, the UK’s leading building envelope and solar products specialist, has won a Building magazine 'Good Employer of the Year' Award. It is the only manufacturer to feature in a Top 50 Employers list otherwise made up solely of architects, consultants, engineers and contractors. Schueco was in the top five of companies commended for providing 'inspiration', the first time that any individual placings have been announced.

The awards are based on the results of questionnaires sent to employees and Schueco achieved its high rating in recognition of its positive attitude to internal communications and its excellent package of employee benefits. The latter include a pension, the extension of personal medical insurance to employees’ families and a generous holiday entitlement, together with childcare and retail vouchers.

The company also employs a fitness trainer and polls staff each year to obtain feedback on the benefits package. As a result, the package is constantly being improved, with new benefits being added on a regular basis. There is also much emphasis on keeping staff fully informed which means, on occasions, being open with them even about negatives such as unfavourable trading conditions.

Schueco’s Managing Director, Marc von Briel, and HR Director Dawn Kneafsey feel that this honest attitude encourages staff to feel valued and to take pride in the company and is, in turn, the best way to retain and motivate talented employees.
