Building envelope and renewable energy specialist Schueco UK Limited was named Manufacturer of the Year at the Building Awards on April 7 in the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane. Over 1,300 guests saw Schueco Managing Director Marc von Briel accept the coveted award, which had been sponsored by the Construction Products Association.

The panel of judges declared Schueco to be the clear winner in this category thanks to an impressive programme of expansion and investment that marked it out as a true industry leader. In contrast to the many companies who were retrenching during 2010, Schueco UK used the year to invest heavily in its renewables offering, recruiting extra staff and developing new BIPV systems.

In addition, it expanded the resources of its aluminium division, launching a series of new window and façade systems including a Green Guide 'A' Rated window. Schueco was also commended for its commitment to improving the industry's overall knowledge base by running an increased number of courses, which are open to any company, at its purpose-built training centre in Milton Keynes.

Overall, the judges were of the opinion that Schueco UK was making 'an excellent contribution to the industry.'
