Client: Scotstoun Stadium
Type of works: supply and installation of sports and safety flooring.
Leading safety flooring manufacturer Altro has supplied over 800m2 of sports and safety flooring to Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, as part of an £18million makeover to get the centre ready for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
The new 100m indoor track was fitted using Altro Mondoflex and Altro Sportsflex was installed in the strength and conditioning room. Altro Atlas 40 was specified for back of house areas including corridors and storage rooms.
As one of the first projects to be completed in preparation for the Commonwealth Games, the state-of-the-art facility required a high standard of products. To meet the demands of high footfall usage from the public and the needs of some of the UKs best athletes it was essential the products met precise, and strict, specifications.
Ben Stuart, Operations Manager of Scotstoun Stadium specified Altro flooring as part of the multi-million revamp. He said: We chose Altro following industry recommendations on the reliability and service of the company and the high quality of its products. It was imperative that the flooring for the indoor track and gym areas was not only strong and durable, but impact resistance to reduce injuries, and with Altros sports flooring we are confident that we have chosen a fantastic product that will meet all our needs.
The indoor track was fitted with Altro Mondoflex, a 4mm rubber flooring that offers high-quality sports performance. It complies with the Sport England Design Guidance by providing shock absorption which exceeds 45%, considered essential to achieve optimum protection for athletes against impact damage. Its combined sprung floor system is easy to maintain, attractive and durable, while its slip resistant smooth surface helps minimise abrasion injuries and its acoustic properties reduce noise levels.
The new strength and conditioning room at the Stadium has been installed with Altro Mondo Sportsflex, which offers durablity, slip resistance and is easy to clean. This, coupled with its attractive design, impact resistance and acoustic values, made it the perfect choice for the multi-use training area at Scotstoun Stadium.
In back of house areas, such as corridors, delivery and storage areas, Altro Atlas 40 was installed. At 4mm thick, Atlas is Altros strongest, most durable safety flooring offering excellent resilience and durability suitable for heavy duty areas.
Ben Stuart continued: Altro products are excellent in terms of safety and that is something of particular importance for a sports stadium. All of the floors installed at Scotstoun have met our criteria for each location. They offer fantastic grip and look very professional everyone at the stadium is very pleased with the results and the stadium is ready for use for the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and other major sporting events.
