Extensive warehousing at a new industrial park development in Pretoria, South Africa, is using a range of actuators and controls from SE Controls Africa to ensure the building’s smoke ventilation systems operate effectively, while also complying with EN12101 standards for fire performance.
The recently completed Waltloo Industrial Park provides a gross leasable area (GLA) of 26,450sq.mtrs and has a zone designation of Industrial 1, making it suitable for a range of purposes including manufacturing, distribution and warehousing.
Working closely with ventilation company, Curvent International, SE Controls Africa supplied 80 x SELA actuator motors with a 180mm stroke length, together with 8 x OS2 controllers and manual control point (MCP) units, to operate the smoke control system.
To provide an integrated fire protection solution, in the event of a fire, the building’s fire detection system not only triggers the smoke vents, but also the associated sprinkler system, which is connected to the SE Controls panels.
Russell Cramb, Key Accounts Manager with SE Controls Africa, explained: “Effective and fully compliant smoke ventilation is an essential part of the building’s design, as it helps protect workers in the event of a fire by ensuring that escape routes are kept clear of smoke to speed evacuation when necessary. Waltloo Industrial Park is a key commercial development in the area and we’re delighted to have played a part in this project.”
