See Procter Cast Stone at Ecobuild 2013

Procter Cast Stone will be on stand S500 at Ecobuild, which takes place at ExCeL, London, from 5-7 March 2013. This will be the first time the company has exhibited its new range of cast stone porticos and has presented its new installation service. Staff will be on hand to explain the benefits of this sustainable, cost-effective and versatile material, and to discuss the use of cast stone products in specific projects.

Ecobuild will provide an excellent opportunity to see and handle examples of cast stone and to ask questions of experienced experts. Procter Cast Stone is one of the UK's leading manufacturers of standard and bespoke cast stone products, and is a full member of UKCSA (UK Cast Stone Association). All customers, from large national house builders to architects and self-builders, are treated to the same high standard of service.

The latest addition to the portfolio of standard products from Procter Cast Stone is a range of high-quality, cost-effective porticos. Standard designs are offered in a choice of styles, and the company can also produce customised versions and bespoke designs, all in either standard or customer-specified colours. Aside from the new porticos, other standard products from Procter Cast Stone include heads, cills, string course, quoins, window and door surrounds, columns, cornice, balustrade, coping, pier caps, walling, ashlar, keystones, corbels, gable vents, steps and spheres.

Ecobuild 2013 will be the first time that Procter Cast Stone has presented its new installation service for standard or bespoke cast stone porticos, steps and balustrade. While contractors generally have the skills necessary to install simple cast stone features such as cills and heads, complex constructions present more of a challenge. By using Procter Cast Stone’s installation service, clients can be certain that the cast stone will be correctly installed, pointed and cleaned. Furthermore, the work will be carried out as quickly as possible and with minimal risk because the cast stone remains Procter’s responsibility until installation is complete. As the installation is likely to be carried out more quickly than if undertaken by the main contractor, and it will be ‘right first time’ as well, the overall cost is usually lower. Procter Cast Stone believes it is unique in the industry because its installers are employed directly, rather than being sub-contractors.

Procter Cast Stone’s comprehensive service covers technical consultation, site surveys, custom design, mouldmaking, manufacture and delivery – plus installation, when required. Budget prices can usually be provided during site meetings, and fixed-price quotes are provided once the specification has been finalised. Colour sample packs enable customers to see cast stone that mimics different types of quarried stone, but custom colours can also be manufactured to match existing stonework or to suit the client’s specification. Procter Cast Stone even has experience in supplying cast stone for listed buildings and projects in conservation areas, so knowledgeable support can be provided when clients are applying for planning permission.

Cast stone is increasingly being recognised for its sustainability, and its versatility makes it excellent for new-builds, renovations, conversions and extensions. As a sustainable product, cast stone performs well both in terms of its production and life cycle. Base materials are either readily available or by-products of industrial processes, and transportation from UK-based factories consumes far fewer resources than imported quarried stone or other materials such as timber. Cast stone contributes to the thermal mass of the building, should not need repair or replacement during the building’s lifetime, and remains non-toxic at all times. At the end of its life, cast stone can be reused or recycled. As a full member of UKCSA, Procter Cast Stone is committed to minimising waste and improving the energy efficiency of its production processes.

Visitors to the Procter Cast Stone stand at Ecobuild can request a copy of Understanding Cast Stone, a specifier's guide to cast stone, which explains what this versatile material can be used for, how it is manufactured and how easy it is to work with. Illustrated with a wealth of colour photographs, the guide includes a table of applicable British Standards and Eurocodes, and lists sources of further information.
