Contractor: Bovis Lend Lease
Type of works: supply and installation of a Girderline aluminium feature channel, rainwater goods and roofline details.
Bovis Lend Lease won the contract to design and build the £160 million project consisting of 38 new blocks of residence, housing 4,200 students. It also encompass the construction of a Hub building with retail and public space for students. It is believed to be the UK's largest transaction for student accommodation, with a private-sector finance.
The first phase of the village was opened in September, and the whole project is scheduled for completion by autumn 2009.
The buildings were created using a combination of materials and one of the distinguishing features is the Black-coated aluminium feature channel running along the different floor levels at varying heights. JWD's Girderline was selected for this.
JWD also created other customised finishing details in powder-coated aluminium for various aspects of the building including rainwater goods and roofline details.
