Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems and its approved fabricator, Anglia Fixing Ltd, have recently completed this new extension, entrance and alterations to Shorefields School in Clacton, Essex. They designed and specified aluminium Comar 5P.i windows, Comar 6 curtain walling and Comar 7 doors. Intensive consultations took place as the brief for this extension and the refurbishment project was that the new windows must feature a Georgian pane effect, to comply with planning requirements, and to ensure they complemented the existing school buildings.
Comar 5P.i thermally broken, high-level, top-hung casement windows and dummy vents, were hung on projecting friction hinges and are operated by electronic window controls. Trickle vents, through a head extension bar, provide free airflow per vent of 8,000mm2 to the internally and externally beaded windows. The Georgian-effect pane was achieved by 25mm stick on cosmetic glazing bars within the cavity of the 28mm double glazed units.
To create the framing, Comar 6 mullion drained, thermally broken, curtain walling system in stick construction, pressure equalised and drained in accordance with BS 6262, was installed. Comar 7 bi-parting doors provided a 1,000mm clear opening to meet DDA requirements. The doors were integrated into the Comar 6 curtain walling, complete with TORMAX Win Drive bi-parting operators for external operation from Finger Print Reader and an internal switch for exit purposes. The doors were also fitted with maximum security hook locks. All aluminium systems were finished in Hipca White RAL 9910 (semi gloss) polyester powder-coat.
All Comar approved fabricators are required to have the technical expertise to attend pre-site meetings and provide detailing. A Comar Architectural Advisor and Anglia Fixing Ltd liaised closely with the specifiers to provide design advice on achieving the Georgian pane effect and detailing, which ensured the project conformed to planning requirements, ran smoothly and met site deadlines.
