Sika secures industrial category clean sweep at FeRFA awards

Two high-spec industrial flooring projects completed using Sika’s high-performance flooring products picked up awards at the annual FeRFA Resin Flooring Association Best Practice event.

The refurbishment of BMW’s Oxford assembly warehouse, carried out by IRL Group, received the Large Industrial Project of the Year award, while the work undertaken by Zircon Flooring at ITV’s new Emmerdale studio triumphed in the Small Industrial Project of the Year category.

The BMW Oxford project saw IRL Group tasked with installing more than 3,700m2 of flooring at the automotive giant’s processing plant in just six days. Sikafloor®-235 ESD was chosen for this project for two reasons; the performance and suitability of the product – providing protection in the electrical components environment – and the speed of application.

Mark Ollerenshaw, Managing Director of IRL Group, said: “This project demonstrates what can be achieved through the combination of the skills and experience of our on-site teams and the excellent working relationship we enjoy with Sika; we made possible, the seemingly impossible.”

For the ITV Emmerdale studio project, the client instructed Zircon Flooring to install a flooring solution with proven anti-static qualities as static charges can have a disastrous effect on sensitive electrical components such as HD cameras in technical areas with high footfall. Mark Bushell, Sika Flooring Business Unit Manager, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that two of the entries we co-submitted for this year’s FeRFA Awards have come away with the top prize, and are delighted that the expertise and professionalism of both IRL Group and Zircon Flooring has been recognised. “This success shows how close working relationships between contractors and manufacturers can deliver the very best problem-solving solutions for projects of all sizes and complexities, whatever their unique requirements.”
