An SGK membrane from Sika-Trocal SGK has been specified to re-cover the existing roof of Lancaster & Morecambe College. The college is recently been enduring a £15
million redevelopment, in a bid to expand curriculum offering, apprenticeships availability and opportunities to work with employers. Part of the second phase of the redevelopment included the renovation of the complex 3000sq m domed roof situated on Block A of the campus.
Trocal SGK is a cost performance bonded membrane for use on all types of substrates. It is highly resistant to ageing and industrial pollutants and requires no surface treatment or maintenance throughout its service life. Trocal SGK contains an integral polyester fleece backing that helped mask the appearance of existing felt on the domed roof. Kingspan TR27 insulation was also installed by being slotted and glued to the existing felt to increase thermal performance.
Sika-Trocal membranes can also claim significant green credentials, as demonstrated by the BRE’s Green Guide to Specification online which provides commercial single ply roofing applications with a typical A+ rating depending on the roof build-up. Trocal SGK contains low embodied energy, has a low carbon contribution, a long service life and low maintenance costs. The domed roof contained a lot of detail work and had to be applied across a large surface area.
As the site is situated on a working college campus, the project had tight deadlines. The speed and simplicity of installation of the Trocal system outperforms others and played a significant part in the client’s specification of SGK. Trocal installed that much needed client confidence by supporting the roofing system with a 20 year guarantee. In addition, Trocal SGK has certification from the British Board of Agrément (BBA) that Trocal membranes have a life expectancy ‘in excess of 30 years’, in their opinion.
