D+H UK are delighted to be installing life-saving smoke ventilation systems as part of the impressive regeneration of 12 high rise blocks in Eccles, Manchester. They provided systems for 5 blocks at Barton Village, 5 blocks at Ladywell Green and a further 2 blocks at Southway and Charter. The high rise improvement programme by City West Housing Trust is working with customers to deliver a cost effective, energy efficient solution for the future.
Smoke Ventilation is a very important consideration in a high rise development as it is the smoke that inhibits escape and rescue.
D+H UK’s most recent system installed at Cawdor house combines CDC chain drives across 9 floors with 2 windows on each floor. By linking with the fire alarm, individual floors can receive a signal which will trigger open the windows which will remain open until reset by the relevant authority. A breakglass switch is located in the lobby for convenience. By far one of Dyer's most simple and effective systems.
After successfully combining the first phases, D+H UK was able to assist in the value engineering of Southway and Charter. Through their input, a new smoke vent louvre system is now being installed to enable a more efficient ventilation system to be introduced. This EN-certified smoke louvre provides a more effective smoke ventilation system whilst proving a similar and safer natural ventilation solution, especially at high level.
