Sony, refurbish boardroom with Mediawall

Client: Sony
Job: Refurbish boardroom with Mediawall
The company's involvement:

AudicomPendax has announced the supply of one of its exclusive Mediawall systems to Sony Broadcast in Basingstoke. The Mediawall is installed in Sony's main boardroom and is the centrepiece of a two-year programme to refurbish its entire 18,580m² plant.

In pride of place is an integrated Sony RVP6000 widescreen monitor through which all video, PC and OHP inputs are displayed. All Mediawall projection functions, together with lighting and curtains, are controlled through a AudicomPendax VisionTouch Screen. Five different video sources are supported, including U-matic, digital Betacam, VHS and 8mm with satellite and terrestrial TV channels, whilst three separate PC inputs allow the direct display of presentation software.

Unusually, rather than rely on traditional OHP, Sony uses twin overhead zoom-cameras focusing onto designated areas of the conference table. 'It was essential to have a display system and meeting environment that was simple to operate,' says David Kelly, Principal Engineer in Building Services for Sony Broadcast and Professional.

'Mediawall also integrates perfectly the various pieces of equipment that we required and AudicomPendax has matched the wood finish of our existing board table for a truly complementary finish,' he adds. James Bedford, AudicomPendax's Marketing Director, is pleased with the Sony installation, commenting, 'This project tested our skills in two separate areas. Firstly, the distinctive hue of the existing furniture had to be matched very precisely to consolidate the unity of the furniture. Secondly we have had to modify our VisionTouch Controller to meet Sony's demands for complete integration with their video formats and on-screen preview of all inputs to the large screen display.'

The storage space in the wall has been utilised for a Sony Trinicom 2000 Video Conferencing unit. This operates through up to six isdn lines for 384K-bandwidth capability and, although it resides in the boardroom, can be moved to any ISDN-equipped location in the facility.
