Spiral staircase for Parliament View Penthouse

Spiral staircase for Parliament View Penthouse

Nestled in the heart of London, Parliament View apartments offer uncompromised views across the capital towards the Houses of Parliament. CANAL were enlisted to open up and expand the upper floor of this penthouse apartment as well as creating an elegant access solution.

In order to create an open area on the upper floor of the apartment, CANAL fabricated and installed a new steel structure, providing support for an extended mezzanine landing as well as a surface to affix seamless low-iron glass balustrades to, maximising the flow of light through the space.

The client was keen to make a feature of the staircase as well as the design being space efficient. Glass spiral staircases provide an elegant connection between floors and do not take up unnecessary space. CANAL fabricated a solid stainless steel ribbon stringer, creating support on one side of the staircase as well as incorporating the new curved low-iron glass balustrade.

A stainless steel central column was also fabricated to provide support on the other side of the staircase and polished to a seamless satin finish to match the other finishing on the staircase.

Triple laminated low-iron glass treads with bespoke etching were installed to match the balustrades and allow light to flow. A satin polished slotted stainless steel handrail was installed to complement the surroundings and provide a stylish and safe solution.
