St Helen's School, Northwood

Client: St Helen's School
Type of works: installed System 2000 and Rooflight Covers

Safesite has installed System 2000 freestanding guardrail and its new freestanding Rooflight Covers at St Helen’s School, Northwood to ensure safe access onto and around the school’s roofs.

Set in over 20 acres of green space, St Helen’s is an independent girls’ day school with more than 1,100 students aged from 3 to 18. As with many buildings, access is required to the school’s roofs for repair and maintenance of plant and equipment as well as for the roof itself.

Following an assessment of the school’s requirements and roof areas, Safesite’s System 2000 freestanding guardrail was recommended to provide edge protection on the roofs themselves while the company’s new Rooflight Covers were specified to provide essential protection for the fragile rooflights situated along the roofs.

The installation of Safesite’s new Rooflight Covers means that maintenance staff and contractors can access the roofs for repair and maintenance purposes and work in complete safety without the risk of falling through the fragile rooflights. Safesite’s Rooflight Cover has been designed for ease of installation. The unit’s telescopic design enables the sides and height of the cover to be adjusted to the required size, while the galvanised mesh is then simply cut to size before being clamped onto the support frame.

Safesite’s BBA approved System 2000 guardrail provides the school with a permanent edge protection solution without the need to mechanically fix the protection to the roof itself. This design overcomes the problems often associated with permanent fixing which can damage the roof membrane, causing leaks and invalidating a roof’s protection guarantee.

By installing Safesite Rooflight Covers and System 2000 edge protection, St Helen’s School is ensuring that it complies with health and safety regulations by providing safe access to the roof.

Safesite remains committed to ensuring that work at height is carried out safely and offers advice regarding compliance with the latest legislation, CPD training as well as workplace health and safety.
