Stannah ensure Peter Rabbit is upwardly mobile

Stannah Lifts Ltd has installed two lifts in The World of Beatrix Potter™ in Bowness-on-Windermere. The lifts are part of the Stannah range of access lifts specifically designed for use by people with disabilities. Their addition to the popular tourist attraction helps the venue to meet the requirements of the DDA.

The recent refurbishment including the installation of the two Stannah Access Lifts has been welcomed by visitors as they provide a practical solution to access for people with restricted mobility. The World of Beatrix Potter™ is idyllically situated on the edge of the beautiful Lake Windermere in the Lake District, just the setting to hop-skip-jump into the world of Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-duck and Mrs. Tiggy-winkle. Visitor numbers to the attraction have grown since the release of 2007 feature film ‘Miss Potter’ starring Renée Zellweger, which was filmed in the Lake District.

Visitors of all ages are treated to an enchanting and unforgettable experience as all 23 tales created by Beatrix Potter are brought to life in the attraction’s re-creation of the Lakeland countryside.

Beatrix PotterDisabled visitors (and Peter Rabbit) can use Stannah’s Midilift SL to get to the Tailor of Gloucester Tea Room on the lower ground floor where they can refresh with a cup of tea (or a carrot juice). The 2 stop vertical platform lift is glass shafted with a blue finish that blends in with its charming surroundings. Once activated by the constant pressure push button the platform moves within the structure supported shaft giving the user a smooth and steady ride.

The Stannah Stairiser SX enables visitors to access the outside terrace where they can enjoy refreshments, taking in the Enchanting World of Beatrix Potter™ sculpture and the surrounding scenery. The lift provides an access solution over a small flight of external stairs to an upper terrace. The lift's platform ramp rises automatically as the barrier arms are lowered and the non-slip platform floor provides the user with extra reassurance. The lift platform folds neatly away against its operating rail when not in use, detracting as little as possible from the aesthetics of its surrounding area and leaving the maximum width of the stairway for pedestrians.

Stannah Access Lifts are manufactured in the UK to BS 8300 and are part of a range of Stannah products to help meet the requirements of the DDA. Other products include fully automatic passenger lifts and seated stairlifts.
