Stannah’s adjacent-entry Xtralift for Tormead School

Stannah’s adjacent-entry Xtralift for Tormead School

Thanks to its adjacent-entry doors, a 13-person Stannah Xtralift was the passenger lift of choice in Tormead School for girls in Guildford, Surrey. The new lift means easy movement of people and equipment over four floors in this leading independent day school for girls aged 4 – 18.

Located within the new, four-storey atrium of the recently refurbished senior school, the lift brings access to students, staff and visitors to all levels of the upgraded building. Most importantly, the building is now accessible to everyone, whatever their level of mobility, including wheelchair users, and successfully meets the requirements of the Equality Act 2010.

When it came to specifying a passenger lift that could handle a demanding workload and multiple equipment manoeuvrings, it was the Xtralift’s adjacent-entry door versatility that sealed the deal, as Simon Tupper, Director at IID Architects, comments:

“The requirement for an adaptable passenger lift that could handle the constraints of moving people and equipment about this new building was best met by the Xtralift’s adjacent-entry door configuration.”

The lift’s tough finish also plays a key role in delivering a reliable service: the car and landing doors are finished in satin stainless steel complemented by a grey, easy-clean, laminated interior, half-height, rear-wall mirror and an anti-bacterial, grey floor – perfect for the heavy use the school will undoubtedly provide.

Wall-mounted, the Xtralift features an energy efficient, high-performance, gearless traction drive. It travels a distance of 8750mm at a speed of 1.0m/s – a reassuring rate for the safe movement of passengers.

The Xtralift meets all required standards: the Equality Act 2010, Part M and EN81-70, EN 81-1, CE mark and The Lift Directive 95/16/EC.

As with all Stannah lift products, the Xtralift 2.0 passenger lift is covered by Stannah’s comprehensive service plan, which includes 24-hour breakdown and service visits, with continued lift maintenance by the Southern England branch of Stannah Lift Services, part of a nationwide network providing comprehensive lift servicing and support.
